Description: Seeking a Senior Water Quality Specialist with expertise in: 1) assisting Cities, Counties, and Districts in renewing their municipal wastewater NPDES permits, Waste Discharge Requirements for land disposal of treated wastewater, and Master Reclamation permits; 2) managing and preparing water quality impact analyses for environmental documents in accordance with CEQA/NEPA; and 3) designing, conducting, and managing special studies in accordance with State and Federal water quality guidance.
The successful candidate will typically work together with one or more current staff to complete the activities described above. The Firm is recognized as a leader in the water quality/wastewater discipline.
Skill Requirements: The successful candidate must possess excellent written and oral communication skills, as the position requires preparation and review of technical reports, as well as interaction with clients at a project management level, and interaction with regulatory agencies on behalf of clients. Must also possess quantitative data analysis skills.
Experience Requirements: At least 8 years of professional experience in the water quality field, with at least 4 years in a project management capacity, is desired. Experience in business development and proposal writing is a plus.
Compensation Package: Industry-leading salary and benefits package. Key aspects of package are outlined below.
Base Salary. Commensurate with experience and capabilities.
Hours. Full-time position expectation is 40 hrs/week. Working beyond 40 hrs/week is at the discretion of the Employee. Additional billable hours beyond minimum expectation is rewarded with profit sharing, up to 25% of Base Salary.
Retirement. Program is presently a self-directed SIMPLE IRA account through Fidelity Investments. Employee may direct income into their SIMPLE IRA account up to the maximum allowed by the IRS, and Firm will match Employee contributions up to three (3) percent of Employee base salary, annually.
Medical/Dental Insurance. Firm pays 100% of the Employee’s health and dental insurance. Employee may add and pay for spouse and dependant coverage, using pre-tax dollars, at Firm’s group rate.
Vacation. Three (3) weeks paid vacation per year.
Holidays. Nine (9) paid holidays.
Sick Leave. 80 hours per year.
Flex Time/Flex Space. Work from home and outside 8:00 am–5:00 pm, M-F is available, with supervisor approval.
Responsibilities: General duties will include writing and reviewing technical reports and California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA)/National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) chapters on terrestrial resources, developing state and federal permit applications for fill or disturbance of streams and wetlands, preparing biological assessments and habitat conservation plans as part of Endangered Species Act consultations, conducting focused plant and wildlife surveys, and developing biological constraints and opportunities reports.
Qualifications: Minimum qualification is a Master of Science degree in biology, ecology, or closely related field. The ideal candidate will have prior experience with CEQA/NEPA, California and federal Endangered Species Acts, stream and wetland permitting, and GIS. Candidate must have experience with California flora and fauna, and with completing impact analyses and developing mitigation. Experience in environmental consulting preferred. The successful candidate, beyond technical excellence, is a positive, flexible, team-oriented individual with the willingness and desire to work as part of a multidisciplinary team. Candidates must possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
